Frequently Asked Questions
Please reach us at info@wenplastics.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Can I use a reconditioned IBC tote for drinking water?
No. Reconditioned totes should not be used for potable water because the bottle is reused. They are ideal for rainwater, irrigation, construction water, and industrial non-potable applications.
For drinking water, choose New or Rebottled IBCs.
Are Wenplastics New and Rebottled totes safe for drinking water?
Yes. Both options include a brand-new, FDA-approved, BPA-free HDPE inner bottle and comply with NSF 61 standards for potable water systems.
Can these totes be used for rainwater harvesting?
Yes. Reconditioned totes are a popular and cost-effective choice for rainwater collection because they are durable and affordable.
For potable use, choose New or Rebottled.
How long can I store water in an IBC tote?
Potable water can typically be stored for 6–12 months, depending on sanitation and storage conditions.
Non-potable water (like rainwater) can be stored longer but should be filtered before use.
Can I store water in an IBC tote outdoors?
Yes. All Wenplastics IBC totes use UV-stabilized HDPE and galvanized steel cages for outdoor use.
To maximize lifespan:
- Ensure proper drainage around the pallet base
- Keep the tote covered if possible
- Avoid long-term sun exposure on the bottle
Do I need an adapter to connect a hose to the valve?
Most likely. The bottom valve uses
- A 2-inch S60x6 (DN50) thread, which may require:
- A Camlock fitting for faster flow
We can help you choose the correct one.
How heavy is a full water tote?
A full 275-gallon IBC tote weighs about 2,300–2,400 lbs (including tote and water).
This must be moved with a forklift or pallet jack.
Can I stack the water totes?
Yes. Wenplastics totes can be stacked:
- 2 high dynamic (in use or during transport)
- 3 high static (storage)
How should I clean an IBC tote before filling it with drinking water?
For potable water:
- For potable water:
- Rinse with warm water
- Sanitize with a chlorine solution (according to drinking water standards)
- Rinse again thoroughly
For non-potable water, a standard rinse is enough.
Will algae grow inside my water tote?
Algae can grow if the tote sits in direct sunlight for long periods.
To prevent this:
- Keep the valve tightly sealed
- Store the tote in shade or cover it
- Use a UV-blocking exterior cover
What materials are the water totes made from?
Our water totes use virgin HDPE for New/Rebottled bottles and HMW-HDPE for strong chemical resistance. The cages are galvanized steel, ensuring long-term rust protection.
Do you offer delivery for water totes?
Yes. Wenplastics provides fast delivery across Canada and the US for small and bulk orders.
Pickup in Delta, BC is also available.
